This is the number that authorities in the Joplin, MO area are asking residents to call to ‘check in’ so to speak. There are approximately 1,500 residents who are missing. Some, of course, could have died, but many may be living with relatives or friends in the area or outside of the area and may not be able to communicate with others via phone, cell or Internet to advise about their well being.
